I never found this funny, rather offensive because a lot of people take it literally and that gives me the creeps.

It’s also often used a conversation ender whenever a cis woman is fighting her point (I say cis woman, because cis men who use misogynistic ‘kitchen’ jokes are HIGHLY unlikely to respect the gender identity of someone who is trans* and would likely not consider a transwoman to be an actual woman, thus wouldn’t use a kitchen joke. It’s disgusting in every way). If a cis man can’t rebuke his opponent’s point properly he just says “get back in the kitchen” in an effort to end the conversation (due to her offense) and escape.

People often don’t realize that any kind of offensive joke (sexist, racist, homophobic, and so on), despite being in jest, perpetuates false ideas. Anytime someone makes a joke bashing women near me, and they try and tell me to “lighten up, it’s just a joke”, I leave. It’s not a big step, but it helps, to tell people who insist on telling jokes like that they are hurtful.
